April: Drypoint: Drawing for Printmaking
$250

REPEAT OF A POPULAR CLASS AT A NEW TIME

DRYPOINT GETS TO THE POINT

This adult class meets on five Wednesdays in April: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

Drypoint is a printmaking technique that produces results that look like a pen or pencil drawing with a special twist. It’s also the easiest way to learn intaglio printmaking before diving into etching or aquatint. On a plexiglas plate you don't have to have any drawing skill; you can trace an image right onto the plate or experiment with abstract compositions. Besides, realistic image representation is for cameras! This is not that.

Instruction includes detailed demonstrations of step-by-step processes, safety tips with the required tools, on the spot problem solving each step of the way and general information about Fine Art Printmaking techniques, framing suggestions and vendors for materials. You also get one-on-one consultation with me throughout the making of your project and group discussions and constructive critiques about each other's art.

The drypoint class will give you the foundation for the rest of the classes at the studio. You’ll learn paper and ink management, press functions and you’ll come away with a small edition of original prints that are at the same time both unique and copies of each other. It may sound confusing, but it's not! Take the class and learn what it all means. In this class, students will make at least one drypoint plate using various tools to create unique drawing marks to make their image.

This is the perfect companion class paired with the Hand Coloring Fine Art Prints Flash Class the following month.

NEW OFFERING: FLASH CLASS 1-DAY WORKSHOP

ADDING COLOR to PRINTS by HAND

This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on Saturday, MAY 17th, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

If you've taken a Printmaking class with me already, for instance Drypoint (or anywhere else for that matter) you've probably got some extra prints that you just don't know what to do with. Adding color can be just the thing to bring vibrancy and surprise to an image that you originally did in black and white.

BOOKMAKING WORKSHOP

This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following days: Thursdays, May 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th from 1:00 pm to 4:00

In this 5 session workshop you'll investigate a number of book making processes including the process of making a book by hand using the cover of an old book of your choice. Finding the cover is part of the fun! A few other binding techniques will be introduced based upon student interest and time. Upon signing up for the class I'll reach out to you and give you some suggestions for finding an old cover for the first project. There will most likely be time for at least two projects in this 5 session class.

In class, I'll guide you through each step and you'll end the process with either a blank book that can be a journal or a sketchbook, or an "artist's book" already filled with designs, images, and writings of your own choosing. Depending on time, you may make both!

June: Linocut Workshop

LINOCUT

Join me for a 4 session workshop on Linocut Printmaking.

This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following dates:

Tuesday, June 3rd, 10th, and 24th from 1:00 to 4:00

and Saturday, June 28th 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

In this class you'll learn how to compose an appealing image (I like to start with self-portraits), transfer that image onto a block, carve the block and ink and print the block. This is a form of printmaking that is ideally done with a press, but does not require one, so once you've done this class you'll have the know-how to do this at home.

July: Found Object Sculpture for Kids (Ages 8 - 12)

THIS IS HOW I SEE THESE THINGS!

This class will meet over one evening, Friday, July 11th from 7:00 to 8:30 and two days, Saturday and Sunday, July 12th and 13th, 9:00 to 4:00. In the style of sculpture by Louise Nevelson, (shown here) students will make low relief sculptures with provided materials and their own recycled materials brought from home. Unlike Nevelson, however, students will add materials found in nature to put their own special twist on a truly unique composition.
