July: Monotype 1
$250

MONOTYPE 1

Join me for a 5 session workshop on Monotype Printmaking.

This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following dates:

Five Tuesdays in July: July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

Monotype is a great introduction to Fine Art Printmaking. An image is created on a flat piece of plexiglas and then printed onto a sheet of paper by running the "plate" and paper through the hand cranked printing press. Multiples, variations, ghosts, off-sets, stencils, transfers...all are terms used in the world of Monotype. With brushes and rags and many other tools you can create an image that is uniquely your own. Think of improvisational jazz with classical instruments.

Instruction includes detailed demonstrations of step-by-step processes, safety tips using the printing press, on the spot problem solving each step of the way and general information about Fine Art Printmaking techniques, framing suggestions and vendors for materials. You also get one-on-one consultation with me throughout the making of your project and group discussions and constructive critiques about each other's art.

August: Monotype 2

If you're not in the July class, please call me at (864)-423-8728 to verify your ability to take the class.

September: Hide and Seek: Marty Epp-Carter and Luci Packard
September 6th 7:00 - 10:00

If you happen to be in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 6th, come on upstairs to The Tugboat Gallery (above Gomez Art Supply) for the opening reception for this two person show. Luci is an incredible painter who just finished her BFA at UN-L and I am, well, an artist who's a little further along than that in the time continuum of my artistic journey. I'll be there that night and the next day, Saturday, to welcome anyone who stops by.

STUDIO VISIT: Saturday, September 14th, 10:00 a.m.

Visual art always has something to say, and this is no less true in the 21st Century than it was in the Renaissance. But the art itself can't speak in words, so we leave that up to the artist. Some artists like to talk about their art and some don't. As someone who loves writing and performing, for me, The Artist Talk is my idea of a good time! It is also a way to give you, the viewer, a deeper look into the whys and hows surrounding my studio practice and the work that comes from it. So bring your coffee and your curiosity and join me for an informal conversation about art, influences, teaching, post-retirement transitions, and life. Space is limited. Please click on the RESERVE button to reserve your place.

August - September: Existing Now: Epp-Carter and Quave
Artist talk Thursday, September 26th at 4:30 in the gallery.

Opening August 19, 2024, at the Lipscomb Gallery in the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. Existing Now: Marty Epp-Carter and Elaine Quave is the two-person exhibit of both artists' most current work. Quave's ceramic creations morph together the connection between the human body and the natural world resulting in at once familiar and strange plant-like forms that encourage the viewer to look closer and within on a journey of wonder. Epp-Carter's intricate collages integrate the bold with the subtle, appropriating cast-offs of their own work to create something both known and new.

The exhibit runs until October 2nd, 2024 with an artist talk Thursday, September 26th at 4:30 in the gallery. Free and open to the public. Check in at the Visitor's Center to be admitted onto campus.

October: Drypoint Workshop
BUY
$250

DRYPOINT

Join me for a 5 session workshop on Drypoint Printmaking.

This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following Wednesdays: October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm

Drypoint is a printmaking technique that produce results that look like a pen or pencil drawing with a special twist. It’s also the easiest way to learn intaglio printmaking before diving into etching or aquatint.

Instruction includes detailed demonstrations of step-by-step processes, safety tips with the required tools, on the spot problem solving each step of the way and general information about Fine Art Printmaking techniques, framing suggestions and vendors for materials. You also get one-on-one consultation with me throughout the making of your project and group discussions and constructive critiques about each other's art.

The drypoint class will give you the foundation for the rest of the classes at the studio. You’ll learn paper and ink management, press functions and you’ll come away with a small edition of original prints that are at the same time both unique and copies of each other. It may sound confusing, but it's not! Take the class and learn what it all means.

November: Collagraph Workshop
BUY
$200

COLLAGRAPH

In this 4 session workshop you'll explore the fascinating varieties of Collagraph Printmaking. This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following Mondays: November 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th from 6 - 9:00 p.m.

Collagraph printmaking is done with a matrix or printmaking plate that has a layered surface that is inked up and printed. That surface is built up with subtle layers of various materials — paper, fabric, lace, leaves, bark, gesso – that are glued to the plate. The collagraph plate can also be incised with lines or shapes below the surface. It’s almost like making a collage that then gets inked up and printed.

Students will come away with a couple variable editions from at least two Collagraph plates.

OPEN STUDIOS 2024
FREE!

November 9th and 10th.

I'm participating in Open Studios again this year. This is absolutely my favorite art related event in Greenville. Why? Because you (our honored visitors) get to see behind the curtain of the amazing artists in our town. Visit our studios, see demonstrations of how we do our work (it's not just magic, you know...) and get to know the artists who make the work you've admired for years. Be sure to get the maps and the App put out by the Metropolitan Arts Council and thank them for hosting this great event.

December: Carborundum Workshop
BUY
$250

CARBORUNDUM

This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following Mondays: December 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th from 6 - 9:00 p.m.

This course is designed for any level printmaker; beginner to experienced. We will create imagery on Plexiglas plates using carborundum grits and polymer adhesive. We will take each plate through stages of additive and subtractive drawing, shape-making and value-making without the time consuming techniques of traditional etching. Since these can be ever-changing plates, each student has a chance to experiment with the gritty elegance of Carborundum grits and the provocative, fuzziness of drypoint (scratched) lines.
