INTRO TO TYPESETTING
Join me for a 4 session workshop on Typesetting.
This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following dates:
Four Tuesdays in January: January 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Hand set type is a growing art form. Transitioning from its origins as a way to produce multiples of books, newspapers and posters for mass communication and distribution, it's now being used by artists all over the world to reconnect to unique, handmade items such as greeting cards, invitations, broadsides, and book plates.
In this class you'll see the press in action and then each student will design, set, ink and print their own broadside (like a small poster) suitable for framing; With a Valentine's Theme if you wish!!! a perfect gift for yourself or someone who appreciates beespoke, unique and timeless art with words.
DRYPOINT GETS TO THE POINT
This adult class meets on four Tuesdays in February: 4th, 11th, 18th and the 25th.
Drypoint is a printmaking technique that produce results that look like a pen or pencil drawing with a special twist. It’s also the easiest way to learn intaglio printmaking before diving into etching or aquatint.
Instruction includes detailed demonstrations of step-by-step processes, safety tips with the required tools, on the spot problem solving each step of the way and general information about Fine Art Printmaking techniques, framing suggestions and vendors for materials. You also get one-on-one consultation with me throughout the making of your project and group discussions and constructive critiques about each other's art.
The drypoint class will give you the foundation for the rest of the classes at the studio. You’ll learn paper and ink management, press functions and you’ll come away with a small edition of original prints that are at the same time both unique and copies of each other. It may sound confusing, but it's not! Take the class and learn what it all means. In this class, students will make at least one drypoint plate using various tools to create unique drawing marks to make their image.
This is the perfect companion class paired with the Hand Coloring Fine Art Prints class the following month.
ADDING COLOR to PRINTS by HAND
This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following dates:
Four Tuesday in March: March 4rd, 11th, 18th, and 25th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm
If you've taken a Printmaking class with me already, for instance Drypoint (or anywhere else for that matter) you've probably got some extra prints that you just don't know what to do with. Adding color can be just the thing to bring vibrancy and surprise to an image that you originally did in black and white.
BOOKMAKING WORKSHOP
5 Wednesdays: April 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.
In this 5 session workshop you'll investigate the process of making a book by hand. I'll guide you through each step of the way and you'll end the class with either a blank book that can be a journal or a sketchbook, or an "artist's book" already filled with designs, images, writings of your own choosing.
This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following
LINOCUT
Join me for a 5 session workshop on Linocut Printmaking.
This class is offered for adults (18 years and older) and will meet on the following dates:
Five Wednesdays in April: from 6:00 - 9:00 pm
In this class you'll learn how to compose an appealing image (I like to start with self-portraits), transfer that image onto a block, carve the block and ink and print the block. This is a form of printmaking that is ideally done with a press, but does not require one, so once you've done this class you'll have the know-how to do this at home.
